Yesterday's big news was the long-awaited official release of the Nikon D200. Now we finally have the real details, and the final round of leaks wasn't too far off:
-
10.2 MP CCD
-
5fps
-
37 frame JPEG/22 frame NEF continuous capture
-
3D CMM II metering (from the D2X)
-
0.15s power-on
-
50ms shutter lag
-
Magnesium alloy body
-
Wi-fi compatible
So what does everyone think? So far, the reviews are glowing. Phil Askey loves it. In fact, he's touting it as a possible EOS 5D killer. Ken Rockwell ordered one for himself. Let's Go Digital has 20 pages of praise (ok, 10 of them are pictures of the camera). Me? I'm excited. I'm sure the images will live up to thier hype, looking at the specs, Nikon seems to be the first company to successfully negotiate a large format digital camera design: lightweight without feeling plasticy, cheap and breakable; sturdy, but not bulky and heavy; small but not too small to grip comfortably. Throw that into the mix with the impressive specs, and I'm ready to jump on the bandwagon; I'm particularly eager to see the low-pass moire reduction implementation in action. My only reservation—and it's not really a reservations so much as innate paranoia—is the desire to see some test captures.
