Digital photographers scare me

At least the ones who read Phil Askey's forum. There have been a couple of threads over there lately on theft and theft prevention. On the whole, the advice has been sane and sound. Pay attention. Don't leave your equipment unattended. Don't act like a tourist. And don't cart your gear around in bags and cases that scream "expensive cameras and lenses inside!" Then there are the resposes that include pictures like the one to the right, and the ones that provoke responses like the following:

I'm writing this, though it is somewhat out of place on this forum, because the concept of the right to use of deadly force in defence of property is often misunderstood, and can have terrible personal consequences if misapplied.

I do not think the rationale given for use of deadly force below is logical, or adequate before the law (key word "reasonably"). It's important to know when lethal force is justified…

It's a camera, people. A camera. It's not worth dying—or killing—over.
