After many many years with all sorts of film cameras, I entered into the world of digital photography
with the now timeless classic Agfa ePhoto 307. After being repeatedly accused by my human subjects for making them look
ugly (well, they were quite pixel-ated in the then super cool VGA resolution and the fixed focus lens), I ran back
to find solace in my trusty old EOS-620 and took part in the digital camera revolution from the sidelines via a
slide scanner.
Every now and then I would get a digital camera, the Olympus DL360, the DC280 etc etc - people still looked … umm
pixelated .. not quite there yet; until the introduction of the Canon Powershot G1. Finally, no more slow
scans, cleaning slide scratches, developing/printing using coupons. The G1 was great! we took some great shots, sent
them around, could experiment on the fly and produced decent prints to pass around. But all was not well in the world
of digital photography.
Amid 1000s of files called IMG00xx.xx .. arose questions like "which is the best format to store: RAW/JPEG/PNG?"
and "how can I share my pictures on the web in full resolution and send them around the world without tying down email
gateways in some small ISPs and flooding people's pathetic little hotmail inboxes?". Add to it failing hard drives, jpg
targetting viruses, a twitchy finger on the delete button. My quest for a solution to all this continues to this day.
Yes, there is light at the end of the tunnel. How long to the "iPod/iTunes" of the digital photography world? I
don't know .. but I hope to find it together with all of you, via this blog. I would also like to thank Jason and his
team for the opportunity to start this blog.
